When it comes to growing plants in your garden – especially plants that produce fruits and veggies – it’s often really difficult to know where to begin; especially if you try growing them from a seed.
Take chilli peppers, for instance.
To grow (or, if you want to use gardening lingo, raise) a chilli pepper from a seed is no mean feat. You have to make sure that the temperature of the compost you’re growing them is as close to the air temperature as possible. That often means that you have to water them (frequently) with tepid water, as well as giving them liquid fertiliser once the seedlings have absorbed all of the nutrients from your compost.
(Growing melons, cucumbers and pepper plants isn’t much easier, either.)
In fact, growing plants from a seedling is often the trickiest thing to master for most newbie gardeners.
Even with meticulous planning (among seasoned growers, keeping a seedling spreadsheet isn’t uncommon), plenty of attention and lots of time spent giving them love and care, things can still go wrong.
That’s why it’s not uncommon for newbie gardeners to hang up their gardening gloves and resign themselves to a plant-free life.
And we think that’s a real shame.
So, as avid gardeners (who also happen to grow high-quality plants for commercial farms across North America), we put our heads together to see if there was something we could do to help our fellow green-thumbed gurus (or, at least, aspiring green-thumbed gurus) to grow their own brag-worthy produce.
Now, we know we can’t come to your house and offer advice on your seedlings. (As much as we’d love to.)
And we definitely didn’t want to just send you a couple of packets of seeds to put in the ground and hope.
We wanted to help you on your way to green-thumbed glory.
And then it came to us.
We can handle this tricky seedling stage for you, so that you get garden-ready plants delivered straight to your door.
And we can make sure that they arrive at just the right time to be planted and start producing you all the fruits and veggies you’ll ever need.
You see, everyday, we use an even split of plant-science, state-of-the-art technology, love, care and attention to grow healthy, happy and high-yield plants for farmers across North America.
And now, for the first time, we’re making this service available to home-growers too.
We’ve been handling that tricky seedling stage for years and years, so we know just how to grow hardy plants that are ready to start growing fresh (and incredibly tasty) produce straight away.
As soon as they’re ready to plant in your garden, we’ll pack them up carefully, prepare them for the journey with some water (and sometimes a heat pack) and send them to your door.
All you have to do when they arrive is carefully unpack the box, bury your plants in the ground and watch the magic happen.
Pretty soon, you’ll have produce like crazy!
Ask Plantables: Why can’t I just go to a big box store and buy the plants from there?
That’s a very good question.
And you’re not wrong, many big box stores have a range of ready-to-bury fruits and veggie plants.
But, speaking from personal experience, these plants aren’t always the best quality.
Because they’re mass-produced, they’re often not grown with lots of love, care and affection.
They’ve also not been grown to produce a high yield of brag-worthy vegetables.
And, sadly, they’ve often sat for who-knows-how-long on the shelf waiting for you to buy them.
(Not to mention, no matter how hard you try, you always end up having to vacuum soil from the backseat of your car after you’ve driven them home.)
So that’s why we started Plantables.
Not only do we love and care for your plants every step of the way, from a tiny, delicate seed all the way through to a hardy seedling that’s ready to start growing produce, but we grow them especially for you.
We don’t start growing them until you order your plants, so that every single plant that arrives at your door is as healthy, happy and hardy as can be. (We also ship them so that they arrive at exactly the right moment to put in the ground and start producing your fruits and veggies.)
Think of it like this, ordering a Plantables box is the difference between grabbing a store-bought muffin in a hurry and having somebody bake your favourite muffins just for you and bringing them to your door.
(Now we really want some muffins…)
What do you need to get started?
Well, aside from a shovel, a vegetable patch and a green-thumbed calling: nothing.
Everything else you need arrives right on your doorstep with your plants.
We know that growing your own produce can be a daunting task, so we’ve made sure to make it as easy and foolproof as possible.
All you need to do is dig the hole, put your Plantables plants in and give them some love and water.
It really is as easy as that.
