You might think gardening is just for old ladies who knit and do crafts on their front porches, but actually, they have it figured out. Gardening means fresh food, cost savings and is the key to living a happy, healthy life. Walking through the garden is much more fun than spending time in the grocery store. If you aren’t convinced yet, here are our top 3 reasons why you need to start a garden this year.
- Healthy Organic Food. Did you know vegetables lose a significant amount of nutrients within a week of harvest? (Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.) We always talk about the importance of our food; “your car doesn’t run off sugar, so if you aren’t going to put good fuel in, don’t expect to win a race.” It’s that simple.
- Save Money. If you count the cents, the dollars add up! No one wants to pay $3 for a single organic cucumber. So this year, grow more of what you love (and succession plant too). More cucumbers, strawberries and lettuce, for sure!
- And last but not least, it is “Me Time”! That thing you never do for yourself but really need? Lettuce be honest; the kids will not bug you in the garden. You can enjoy the fresh air, sunshine and just be.
So, if you want to live a happy, healthy life and knit on the front porch, you should start a garden. What are you waiting for? Get growing!
